What is an AI mock interview?
An AI mock interview is a simulated job interview run by a language model that asks role-specific questions, scores your answers, and gives you written feedback. Done right it is the cheapest way to add reps before a real loop — the same way pilots clock hours in a simulator before they touch a real cockpit.
Workzil's AI interview prep coach generates questions against the actual job description you applied to, runs the rehearsal in voice or text, and grades each answer on structure, specificity, jargon, and pacing. Because the coach shares your profile with the rest of workzil, it knows which projects on your resume are the strongest STAR-format material and steers you toward those.
Interview anxiety is mostly about novelty. Run six mocks against six different JDs and the seventh feels familiar. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks millions of hires per month; the candidates who get them are usually the ones who practised out loud. The Harvard Business Review has covered the same point in research summaries on interview prep — deliberate rehearsal beats reading question lists every time.
How does workzil AI interview prep work?
1. Point the coach at a real job
Pick any job from your shortlist or paste a job description. Workzil reads it for required skills, seniority signals, and the company's likely interview format (behavioral, system design, case, role-play).
2. Choose voice or text
Voice mode runs a realistic spoken conversation through your mic with sub-second latency. Text mode is the quiet-office option. Both pull the same question bank.
3. Realistic, role-specific questions
For a senior backend engineer, expect a system-design loop and one behavioral round. For a sales rep, expect a discovery role-play. Questions are generated against the JD, not a generic 200-item bank.
4. Real-time grading on each answer
After each answer the coach scores structure (STAR), specificity, jargon density, and pacing — then suggests the one thing that would have moved the score the most.
5. Replay and pattern-match
Every session is recorded and transcribed. Workzil pulls out your most common filler words, your weakest answer category, and the questions you stalled on.
6. Adaptive next session
The next mock targets the weaknesses, not the questions you already nailed. The system keeps tightening until your average answer is interview-ready.
How is this different from FinalRoundAI and Pramp?
FinalRoundAI is the best-known AI interview tool. It runs solid mocks and ships a real-time "answer overlay" for live interviews — which is also why employers have started detecting and blacklisting it. Workzil is deliberately practice-only: no live overlay, just reps that build the actual skill.
Pramp pairs you with another candidate for free peer mock interviews. Pramp is great when you can schedule it and when your partner is competent. Workzil is available right now, ranked grading is consistent, and the next session adapts to your weakest answer category instead of repeating questions you already nailed.
- Tied to the real JD you applied to, not a generic question bank.
- Adaptive — each session targets your weakest answers.
- Bundled with matching, auto-apply, and tracker so practice fits naturally into the funnel.
- No live-overlay shortcuts — practice, not cheating.
Who is this for?
Adaeze, senior backend engineer in Lagos
Has the technical chops but freezes in behavioral rounds. Workzil drills her on STAR-format stories with her actual project history until the answers feel automatic.
Mehmet, recent CS grad in Berlin
Knows the LeetCode patterns but has never explained one out loud. Voice mode forces him to verbalize his approach, which is what interviewers actually score.
Sigrid, product manager pivoting from fintech to climate tech
Practices a product-strategy case where the rubric is climate-specific. The coach generates probing follow-ups about emissions math and policy risk that a generic PM mock would never raise.
Tomaž, contract DevOps consultant in Ljubljana
Cycles through quick screens with different agencies. Five-minute drills before each call keep him sharp on the same three "tell me about a Kubernetes outage" stories.
Supported interview formats
Behavioral
STAR-format questions sourced from your resume.
Technical screen
Algorithm, debugging, language deep-dive — voice or text.
System design
Open-ended design loops with structured probing.
Product / case
PM cases, consulting cases, strategy interviews.
Sales role-play
Discovery, objection handling, close simulations.
Healthcare scenario

Bundled prep is sharper prep
Standalone interview tools don't know what you applied to last week or which questions you have already practised. Workzil's coach shares the same profile with the AI matching engine and auto-apply — so your practice always reflects the real funnel, not a generic question bank.
